Maven Trading and trading around the news
On the Standard 1, 2 and 3 Step plans, no opening or closing within two minutes either side of red folder news, in the challenge and once funded. The rule, in their own terms
- During the evaluation
- On Standard 1 Step, 2 Step and 3 Step the 2-minute ban applies during the challenge as well. On 2 Step OMO and Buy Now Pay Later news trading is fully permitted in the challenge.
- Once funded
- Standard: the same ban on the simulated funded account. 2 Step OMO: news trading is allowed, with the profit from any single news event capped at 0.50 percent of the balance. Buy Now Pay Later, Instant and Instant Mini: fully permitted, by their FAQ.
- The window
- 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after an applicable red folder release. Their page does not set a separate window for speeches.
- What it costs you
- Profit made in the window is excluded and cannot qualify you to pass. On 2 Step OMO, profit above the cap is adjusted. Their page does not say whether a breach closes the account or what happens to a loss.
- Which calendar counts
- Forex Factory's red folder calendar plus their own list of affected instruments, which we could not find published. Some events restrict all instruments.

What trips people up
- The window also covers a take profit that fills and the automatic close when you reach the challenge profit target.
- Their terms allow holding a position opened more than 2 minutes before the event.
- Their terms say the ban covers all accounts, while their FAQ frees Instant, Buy Now Pay Later and OMO. Ask them which one applies to your account before you rely on it.
Knowing the window is not the hard part
Knowing which release lands on which currency, and when, is. A rule about five minutes only helps if you saw the event coming that morning.
