BrightFunded and trading around the news

No restriction in Phase 1 and Phase 2. On a funded account, no trading on the targeted instruments within five minutes either side of a listed release; the profit of that trade is deducted. This is what their own help page says, read on 15 October 2026, with what it means in practice underneath.

The rule, in their own terms

During the evaluation
During Phase 1 and Phase 2 you can trade around news freely, with no restrictions.
Once funded
On a funded account, opening and closing trades on the targeted instruments is restricted inside the window, market and limit orders, stop loss and take profit, and buy and sell stops alike. Other instruments trade normally.
The window
5 minutes before to 5 minutes after the event, a 10-minute window. Speeches get no separate window, but the list holds some, such as the BoE governor speaking and the BoC and BoJ press conferences.
What it costs you
A soft breach: the profit made on that trade is deducted and the account is not breached. A loss on a trade in the window is not compensated.
Which calendar counts
Their own table per currency, at the end of the article. For the dollar: the Fed funds rate, payrolls, final GDP, the FOMC minutes and CPI. For the euro only the main refinancing rate, for the franc only the SNB policy rate.

BrightFunded news calendar: this week's high-impact releases

The high-impact releases for the eight major currencies this trading week, from our own calendar, in Amsterdam time with the UK time beside it. Which events are restricted is BrightFunded's decision and their own list is the one that applies, so use this as the week to plan around and check theirs before a trade on a funded account.

What trips people up

  • A trade opened more than 5 minutes before the event may be held and modified, but a stop loss or take profit that fills inside the window is still a soft breach.
  • The exception: a take profit on a trade opened 48 hours or more before the event is not deducted.
  • Their page does not say whether the 1-Step evaluation counts as Phase 1.
  • Their list of prohibited strategies adds that traders must avoid exploiting abnormal volatility or price gaps around these releases.

Knowing the window is not the hard part

Knowing which release lands on which currency, and when, is. A rule about five minutes only helps if you saw the event coming that morning.

MacroSetup flags every high-impact release for both currencies in a setup, with the time, before the session starts. This week's events for the eight majors are public on the calendar page, and what the research does with them is on the page for prop traders.

The other firms

The windows run from 2 to 10 minutes, and what happens afterwards runs from a share of the profit to a closed account. Worth reading before you pick your next challenge. All 16 firms side by side.
