MacroSetup and EdgeFinder, side by side
EdgeFinder is a scanner: many markets, many indicators, one score each. MacroSetup is a desk: eight currencies, read every morning, with the reason written next to the number. Which one fits depends on whether you want breadth or a view you can argue with. This is from their own pages on 23 September 2026.
We are not affiliated with EdgeFinder or A1 Trading, and nobody paid for this page.
The comparison
| MacroSetup | EdgeFinder | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Macro research on eight currencies, written up every morning with the reason behind every score. | A scanner and scorecard tool from A1 Trading that reads many markets at once and scores them from very bullish to very bearish. |
| Markets | Forex only: the eight majors and the 28 pairs between them. | Forex plus other asset classes, with heatmaps, scorecards and a list they call Top Setups. |
| What it reads | Risk sentiment across markets, the central bank and rate level, the releases each bank watches, geopolitics and the price of the week. | Their site lists positioning from the COT report, retail sentiment, the put call ratio, economic surprise and strength indexes, spreads, a carry scanner and a geopolitical risk tracker. |
| Weights in the open | Yes: 40 points for risk sentiment, 35 for fundamentals, 20 for geopolitics, 5 for the week's price. | Not published as far as we could see. |
| Track record | Published day by day: the top 3 of each day measured on price from one London opening to the next, misses included. | We could not find a published day by day record of past scores measured against price when we checked. |
| How you pay | $49 a month, cancel in two clicks, 14 days free first and no card to start. | One payment for lifetime access, as their page states. We could not read a price: their pricing page showed no amount when we checked, so we do not quote one. |
| Free tools | The public pages: the rate differentials of the eight, the central banks and this week's high-impact calendar. | A free live currency heatmap and a set of calculators on the A1 Trading site. |
Pick them if
- You trade more than currencies and want one scanner across all of it.
- You want positioning, retail sentiment and the put call ratio in the same screen.
- You would rather pay once than every month.
Pick us if
- Currencies are what you trade, and you want eight of them read properly instead of forty scored quickly.
- You want a sentence behind every score, so you can disagree with the reasoning rather than the number.
- You want to see the hit rate of past calls, including the bad days, before you pay again.
The honest trade-off runs both ways. A lifetime payment is cheaper over years, and a subscription has to earn its place every month. That is the deal we would rather be held to, and it is the reason the record is public at all.
How we checked
The right-hand column comes from the EdgeFinder pages on the A1 Trading site, read on 23 September 2026. We have not used the product. Where their own page did not show something, such as the amount on their pricing page, we say that instead of filling the gap with a number from somewhere else.
EdgeFinder and A1 Trading are their trademarks. We have no affiliation with them, this page is not sponsored, and if anything here is wrong or out of date we will correct it and move the date.
The other comparison we keep is MacroSetup and Forex Fundamentals.
Questions about the two
Is MacroSetup an alternative to EdgeFinder?
For the currency part of it, yes. EdgeFinder scans several asset classes and scores them; we read eight currencies and write down why each one sits where it does. If you trade more than forex, their breadth is the argument for them.
What does EdgeFinder cost?
Their own pricing page did not show an amount when we checked on 23 September 2026, so we do not quote one. What their page does state is that it is a one time payment for lifetime access rather than a subscription.
Is a lifetime payment better than a subscription?
Over enough years it is cheaper, and it removes the monthly decision. The other side is that a subscription has to keep earning its place, which is the arrangement we would rather be held to.
Do both publish a track record?
We publish every day's top 3 measured on price from one London opening to the next, with the misses. We could not find a day by day record of past scores on the EdgeFinder pages when we checked. Our track record
